Basurama Brussels
The festival laid its first foot outside Spain. With the coordination of different Belgian collectives and with funds from the European Union, the Belgian neighborhood of Annessens could host Basurama’s first international collaboration. more info

Basurama: Concerts 05
A series of concerts was programmed in La Casa Encendida. Bands like Neptune or Lo-Bat, who use old fashioned computers and car parts in order to generate new sounds were invited to the venue. more info

Basurama: The Book
First publication edited by Basurama. The aim was to compile the different reflections and projects that arose during the 05 Edition and to count with direct collaborators such as Richard Stallman, Lewis Blackwell, Pedro Feduchi, Daniel García Andujar, Alberto Corazón.. to configure an ideological realm and stating ground in order to get people to look at trash with a freer perspective.more info

 

April –September: 2005
Basurama 05. 2x1
The fifth edition of the festival was divided in two different parts:

April: workshops, projections, conferences and other events with the participation of individuals and groups of the contemporary realm. As a result of these activities we planned to generate a finished product. These objects together with the reflections that came out of the sessions held would be compiled into a book to be presented in the month of September. more info

September: the most powerful products out of the workshops were selected in order to create a very interactive exhibition. The visitor was invited to touch, play, and use every exposed object. This was completed with a series of instruction manuals explained you how to make your own gadgets out of trash. more info

March 2005
Used Cardboard Habitation Unit. Collaboration with Mexican artist Hector Zamora
As part of the Arco International Contemporary Art Exhibition in Madrid, La Casa Encendida programmed a series of artist’s works inside their centre. Hector Zamora’s installation on the building’s roof, counted with the participation of Basurama.

Spermöla: Interchange of useful wasted objets amongprivate users
Interactive Expo in UGT Building: Foundation for Progress and Culture. This exhibition-workshop was intended to promote creativity, neighbourhood collaboration and optimisation of used objets. more info

 

 

September 2004
“Me bajo a la calle” workshop
Collaboration with Laboratorio Urbano and Alacalá University.
Under the name of (R)active, the University of Alcala holds a series of workshops in order for the students and children of Alcala to transform the immediate environment in the most effective and creative way. Basurama is invited to take part in take an active part in one of these workshops. more info

 

March 2004
Festival’s Fourth Edition. Future’s Trash in La Casa Encendida
By moving to La Casa Encendida, the festival became more ambitious and gained a wider concept. The contest was also present in this edition, but was accompanied by many parallel activities: Conference and film program, Exhibition, children workshops etc. People like the young Spanish architect, Andres Jaque collaborated and works by Droog Design or Javier Pérez Aranda were exhibited. more info

April 2003
Festival 3rd edition. Waste and Survival
The third edition of the festival takes place in Madrid School of Architecture for the last time. It also holds its first Lecture Program, with the participation of Santiago Cirujeda. more info

June 2002
Installation for the “World Environment Day”. 150 tons of trash
Briefed by the Regional Government, Basurama brings garbage back to the city. The purpose is to physically bring garbage to people, and provide an objetctive vision of the quantities and qualities of all that trash that “disappears” once we put it in the containers.

Festival 2nd edition. You are what you throw away
The festival starts acquiring more attention and coverage. New participants attend the contest and professor Antonio Miranda is the chair of the Jury. Trash is regarded in this edition as a source of memory and detection of hour own consumtion and life habits. more info

May 2001
Festival 1st edition. Reusing Contest
It took place in Madrid School of Architecture. The festival had a contest format: people where invited to compile and accumulate garbage, and use it to build something new with it. There were prices given to the best Garbage Compilation as well as to the best three new-old objects. more info
